Do you like the school you attend? What is it like?  Is it new or old?  Modern?  Does it have any good facilities? Do you like the classes you take? Which is your favorite class?  Why? Which is your least favorite?  Explain What sorts of things do you need for your classes? What do you do in classes?  Which activities help you learn the best?  Which activities do you dislike?  Do they help you learn or not?

Primero:  Las clases

The following list represents many of the subjects offered in high schools.  Of cource the list is not complete, so you might not find everything you study here.
 
 

Sugestión:  Make flash cards for these classes- Spanish and English.  Study and sort:  classes you have/don't have; classes you like/don't like; order them in terms of perceived importance, enjoyment, etc.

Actividad:
Imagine you had to establish an educationally sound program for graduation.  Each year [of four] students must take (and pass) 7 classes.  Make a chart of the classes you believe should be taken.  You can divide it into core (required) courses and electives.

Write and complete the following sentences with subjects or classes:

Tell when you use 15 of the items in a school related setting. Use the following construction:

Some of these verbs need objects- they need to be done to something.  You can talk- but to whom?  You can write, but what?  You can practice, but what do you practice.  The following list may help you express better your classroom activities.

Actividad:  Make a list of five different classes you take, and for each write four activities you do in each.  Try to use as much of the vocabulary as you can.  Use the YO (I do) form from the column above.

• Make a list of the five activities that help you learn the best.

• Tell about yourself as a student: Soy estudiante (alumno/alumna) del (primer, segundo, tercer, último) año en la escuela secundaria de...(Boston High).

• Tell about the classes you take:  Sigo las clases [materias]  de  (matemáticas, español, etc.)

• Tell about the items you use in school:  Para todas mis clases tengo.................(lápices, bolígrafo, papel, etc.)...en mi mochila.

• Tell about specific items you need for specific classes:  Para la clase de... (español necesito tijeras, lápices de colores, etc.)

• Tell about the subjects that do an do not interest you:  Me interesan............    No me interesan........

• Tell about the classes you like (and do not like), and tell why by describing the class or telling what you do in it.    (No) Me gusta la clase de.........................porque......... (es interesante, divertida, etc. OR siempre hablamos, dibujamos, cantamos, etc.)

• Tell the activities you do in your classes.  En todas las clases yo (escribo, leo, etc.)  En la clase de (matemáticas resuelvo problemas).  En la clase de español (bailo y canto, etc.

• Tell what activities help you learn the best:  Aprendo más cuando (charlo, estudio, etc.)

• Describe in detail your favorite class- what it is and why, what you use/need in it, what you do in it.  Mi favorita es la clase de .......
